is there anyway i can change the setting, or using some sort of f1 to f9 keys to get all these keys going?

if it is, how i can do it on window7 machine.

seems not able to find the fountion for me to change it

It is possible to get another keyboard and hook it up.

You could do that, but on my netbook you have to use 2 or 3 keys to get home, end, page up, page down etc to work.

poster 2: the reason i got a netbook is for traveling purposes, if i need an external keyboard, might be easier for me to use my laptop instead.

poster3: thats exactly the same problem i have. its trather frustrating, specially with a fast typer, someone lke me.

Are you using Jaws set to Laptop settings. Next are you aware that their are keystrokes that do this using Jaws? You can also change the function keys so they work like your laptop the setting should be in programs? Answer these questions. My netbook and Asus is what I think you have work the same and I have all tese things.

what netbook are you using?
did you try funtion key + arrow?
and if you are using jaws set your keyboard layout to laptop...
hope this helps...

Function key Arrow turns the overall volume up or down. I'm using a netbook and function key plus page up/down will resultin End or Home, providing JAWS is set to lappy keystrokes.

Mine is asus as well, but mine is set to function key up or down arrow is page up or down respectfully and function key left and right rrow is home and end. My keyboard layout is also set to laptop rather than desktop.

While reading about batch files today, I learned that, in DOS, there's a way to remap keys so that they do different things from their original purpose. Perhaps, there's a way to do that in Windows or to have it so that you could press a single key to accomplish whatever you're trying to do like get to your start-up page on the internet.

Yes, but it's not necessary. You can do it with Jaws too, but it's more trouble then it's worth. Smile. But we are talking here acout the keyboards on Netbooks, and this is the simple fix that has been stated above, nothing fancy, easy, and the universal setup.

hi all,

thanks for all the input here. i've worked out

yes, indeed it is a very simple solution, just the interface of the hardware, nothing to do with software or make it complecated than it is.

for those who's interested or have similar problem,

the combination key for "home" is function + left aro, "end" function + right aro "page up" function + up aro and "page down" function + down aro.

i believe most asus netbooks keyboard will have the same setting (for those keyboard that does not have all of the above 4 keys as in default).

i believe it ccan use with the function key + some other keys on the keyboard, but it is not as effective as the one above, it is pretty confusing.

again, thanks for all the input.

cheers

You are right sweet aussie girl. If you are using Jaws read the help topic that says laptop keystrokes for Jaws. This is the issue for any netbook not only Asus, so. Cheers.

no, it is not so much the problem with jaws. jaws always set to laptop keyboard by default by me since the very first day i install it. it is more to do with the hardware interface than anything else.

still though, i don't understand why they need to have quit screen key, and pores key instead of having home and end key there, that would make more sense i think.

Jaws when I installed it is not set to laptop layout by default, so I'm lost their. You have to choose that setting. Yes it is a hardware issue, but Jaws and I hope other screen readers are compensating for it, so I set mine to Laptop layout instead of desktop layout, and their are some other setting like universal laptop layout or something to that effect, but mine worked best with just plain laptop layout and reading the Jaws help file on laptop keystrokes and these are exactly the ones you and I use to get these function covered. Also I have set my netbook to allow the function keys to operate like my desktop, because out of the box it was not set that way, and for me I could use it either way, but it is more comfortable to check that bosx so they work as I'm use to, so. We are fortunit to be able to ajust the hardwear, but that is the problem with Netbooks and some laptops as well, so.
